Caloundra Foreshore Fun Run – Race Report
We went along to one of our favorite races today. The Caloundra Foreshore Fun Run has a lovely relaxed, family feel, and raises funds for Our Lady of the Rosary school at Caloundra. I went in the 10k with Guinness while Kato and the kids did the 3k dash with their dogs.
A lovely if fresh morning with a slight breeze greeted the assembling runners for the 10k. I caught up with our mate Jen and Girl, her Cattle Dog, as well as clubmate Bill and Mum-on-the-run Le-Anne with her son Connor. Co-worker Emma was also lining up for the start, as well as Bellthorpe (our web host and mate as well as forum member) and the usual list of fellow runners.
At the gun Guinness and I started from the rear of the pack as requested by the organisers, but were surprised that within 500 metres several of the runners were already walking. Weaving in and out of the bottlenecks created by them was challenging but we persevered and were relieved to eventually reach some open space. From here it was pass a few people (Guinness can pee on a bush and not appear to loose any speed) and then get overtaken in return when I had to stop and pick up one of Guinness’s four poos during the race. Thankfully they all coincided with a nearby rubbish bin so I didn’t have to carry a full baggy for any distance.
Towards the end of the race our consistent pacing paid dividends and we found ourselves passing more and more runners, and looked particularly strong on the hills in the final kilometre or so. And the best part? Black dog and I crossed the line in one hour flat – a good run and nice to see the 10k time slowly being whittled away. I felt good all the way through and so did Guinness.
Once again a huge thank you to the organisers and the volunteers.
